Networking grows your business by building trust and relationships with other business owners.
Objections I hear quite often are
- Why would I network within my industry?
- These businesses offer the same as me; Why would I want to help them?
- I would be giving away business, why would I do that?
It may sound silly to network within your own industry however it is very important to growing your business. It helps you to become a leader in your industry.
What is networking?
Networking is defined as the process of interacting with others. It is about sharing information and creating professional relationships with these people in order to benefit both parties. Networking should not be seen as sales or a way to benefit just you. It is a way to build relationships and achieve positives for everyone involved.
Networking is important in all sections of business, whether it is networking with investors, suppliers or potential collaborations. Networking can do wonders for your business and networking with like minded people in your industry will actually help your business to GROW and keep going!
Strengthens your position
If you are networking with those in your industry it helps to strengthen you and your business as leaders. It shows that you are not out to just think about yourself and you are willing to help other businesses.
It shows that you are able to be professional and build connections with those around you.
Gives you a fall back
There will be times in business where you fall ill or you are planning a holiday. During these times your business needs to continue and can not stop because you are unable to work.
By building a strong network within your industry and building relationships you can call on one of your fellow industry leaders and have them provide advice. It works both ways as well, there may be times when they call on you asking for your assistance when they might need some help.
Referrals
By networking with those in your industry you are more likely to receive referrals from the different businesses in your network. Even though you are all in the same industry there may be certain specialties that you cover that they may not and vise versa. This means that if they have a client go to them wanting a particular service and they are unable to provide it, they can refer them to you and you are able to take on the business.
This is a great way to grow your business through networking and working with those in your industry and not against them.
Growing your business can be difficult at times. It may seem like you are covering all your bases with a website, social media marketing and an offline marketing approach. However this is not all that you can do to grow your business. Networking is a way to make new friends, build relationships with other professionals and a way to grow your business organically and in a way that also helps others in your industry.
Many people think of those in their industry as the competition and people that they need to avoid. However this is not the case. See them as an asset and someone that you build relationships with. This will allow you to scale your business and you are more likely to succeed. You will also be seen as an important part of the industry.
