What is the meaning of a hashtag?
A hashtag is the hash symbol placed before a word, phrase or topic to collect all articles and posts in relation to that topic. #hashtag
You should absolutely be using them on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest! You have 30 spots and I recommend using them all on each and every post.
Why use hashtags?
Now your know what a hashtag is, it will be helpful to understand what is the purpose of a hashtag.
Hashtags have been introduced to the social media platforms as a way to categories topics and build a library of resources that are each for you navigate but also so you can easily contribute to a topic.

Researching Hashtags to use
The next thing to consider is what you will use for the 30 hashtags that you have available.
The first step is to take your business hat off and your consumer or client hat on. To get the engagement you are looking for, you need to be getting in front of your ideal client. What are they looking to get out of your post. For example #socialmediatips might be something you are following to get these tip to improve your social media skills.
Next you need to find the balance between your hashtags such as your business name, occupation, local region or area and fill the gaps with the generic ones.
This will take a bit of time to find the right hashtags as you will need to spend a bit of time researching.
If you only use the most popular hashtags, it is very likely for you to get lost in the big wide cyber world. There are so many posts from that hashtag that you will get bumped from the top pretty quickly BUT there is a place for you there! Ideally choose hashtags that are between 1500 – 500,000. If you are looking to get 250 points of engagement, aim for hashtags with 250000 hashtags. It shows credibility but you will have enough time to appear in the feed for your ideal client.
