Jess here!

Instagram is like an art. You need to perfect it and the way that it works. There are so many different ideas out there on how you can get your page to look right. How to get increased followers. And how to get those followers to actually interact on your posts. Because really, there is no point having thousands of followers if they aren’t actually noticing you. I have spent years on Instagram, on both my personal and business accounts. I have tried different ideas, played around with my posting and worked out the quickest, easiest ways to make the platform beneficial to me. Want to know how to use Instagram like a pro?

Be present

Posting an image once a week isn’t going to get you the results that you want. In order to gain more followers and show up in the feeds of those following you, you need to be consistent with your posting. A minimum of once a day should be your goal for posting on Instagram. Be consistent with your posts and you will start to notice a difference. Using a scheduling app can help you to stay organised and on top of your posts. This way you do not need to remember each day to stop what you are doing and create a post.

Being present is more than just posting to your own feed though. You need to be present in all aspects of the app.

This includes replying to comments that people have made. Going onto other profiles, liking and commenting on their posts and interacting. The more you interact with your followers and the accounts you are following, the more results you will see on your page.

Use hashtags

Hashtags are a quick and easy way for people to search for posts on a particular topic. By using hashtags on your posts, it means that you are giving yourself a higher potential of people to reach. You can use up to 30 hashtags per post, so make sure you make them count. It is important that you are using hashtags that relate to your business and the post that you are putting up. There are hashtags that are more popular than others and also some that are ‘shadow banned’ by Instagram. It is a good idea to take the time to research your hashtags and use the ones that are going to give you the biggest potential reach.

Choose your theme

You have probably noticed that there are some very aesthetically pleasing accounts on Instagram. As the platform is an image and video based platform, you need to have it looking good. Rather than switching and changing your image types each post, choose a theme and stick to it. Your theme should be in line with your business and branding.

By having a clear theme in place, your followers will be able to remember you and relate the posts straight back to you.

An Instagram that is pretty, catching and engaging will attract more followers than one that is unorganized and dull in looks.

Watch when you post

The goal on Instagram is to get your images seen. So posting at 2am probably isn’t the best idea. Look at who your target market is and determine when they are more likely to be online. By posting at times when they are likely to be online, it means that your posts will be sitting up near the top of ther feed when they are scrolling.

If you post when they are not online, you have the potential of your posts being missed by the time they start scrolling through.

Tag other accounts

It is always a good idea to tag others if you have a post that you have created with them or that they may be interested in. By tagging others, they are then able to see you and hopefully do the same. If you are using a product from another business in your images, tag them. Not only are you helping them, but they will also appreciate the share and you have a higher chance of them wanting to help you as well.
