Automation is a way of setting tasks within your business to automatically be completed. There are many things that you can automate within your business and in most cases, no one will ever know that they are automated.

Using automation within your business is a great tool. It can free up a lot of time for you, ensure that certain tasks are getting done (which otherwise may get forgotten) and ensures that you are up to date with the tasks. Automation is definitely something you need to be taking advantage of in your business, however when you do use automation you need to ensure that you are not looking yourself in the process.

Having many of your tasks set to be completed automatically by a program or software can seem like you are taking away that human aspect of your business. It is important to make sure that you do not loose yourself in the automation and that those who are receiving information from you in an automated way, are still able to see that there is a person behind the business and not just a computer.

What can I automate?

There are many things you can automate within your business and the processes can be set up very easily in most cases. One of the first things you can automate is your emails to your customers and mailing lists. Using a mailing program you can set up a range of different emails that can be sent out to them at different times. This can include follow up emails after phone calls, touching base emails, newsletters and sales information.

Another task that can be automated is your social media. Keeping on top of your social media and having regular posting is very important to increase your businesses position within the industry. You can create and schedule your social media posts in advance and have them automatically post on different days as per your schedule.

Other tasks that can be automated can include; bank reconciliations, blog posts to your website and birthday/Christmas send outs to your previous customers.

Why should I automate?

Automation within your business can hold many benefits. One of the main ones is that it will free up time for you. It may not seem like too much effort sending 1-2 thank you emails after a purchase has been made and it doesn’t take up much time right? This is true, however as your business grows and you start needing to send out 10 of these emails a day and then 50 a day – it will become very time consuming. Having these automation processes in place means that you will not be spending all your time focusing on these smaller tasks. They will all automatically be done for you and you will not need to worry about whether you have gotten it done or not. Having automation within your business gives you back the time and freedom to be able to focus on the bigger tasks.

How do I automate and still remain genuine?

When you begin automating tasks within your business, it is important to remain genuine and continue to show your customers who you and your business are. Ways to not come across as just a computer to your customers could include simple things. An example is emails to them being addressed directly. This is possible with a lot of the automation programs, you can select that it is addressed to the first name of each person on the list.

You could include automations to go out to each person on their birthday and Christmas. You can tailor your emails to suit the target market of your contact list.

When creating your social media schedule include posts that are relatable and personal at times – to show that you are a real person doing business. This could include behind the scenes images, photos of yourself and your family or memes that relate to you and your target audience.

Being genuine will help people to continue to come to you. It shows them that you are a real person and that you are building your business to help them. Automating your business shows that you are professional and organised within the business. Putting the two together shows great success and drive for your business.
